CBS19 in beautiful Charlottesville, VA is looking for our next Director of Sports.
Anchor and Report on newscasts and digital platforms as assigned. Will also participate in Special Projects, community events and public appearance.
Role and Responsibilities:
Develop, shoot, write and present local sport stories for newscasts, CBS19News.com, specials, special projects and all digital platforms
Provide extensive coverage of University of Virginia athletics
Perform active live shots in the field or studio as assigned by Producer
Edit stories as assigned
Drive and operate station vehicles
Travel long distances in the execution of assigned duties
Be available on-call as assigned
Look for points of difference in storytelling
Support and champion the CBS19 News brand
Be able to post video and stories on web and mobile platforms
Win Breaking Sports News
Supervise and plan day-to-day operation of Sports Department
Assist in hiring, discipline of sports personnel
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
At least 4 years' experience as a Multi-Media Journalist is preferred
College degree in broadcast journalism or related field
Ability to work independently with excellent editorial judgment
Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record compliant with our Vehicle Safety Policy.
Aggressive and competitive qualities with an overriding sense of good journalism and fair reporting
Physical requirements:
Good eyesight and hearing, ability to walk up stairs and sometimes long distances, ability to lift weights up to 30 pounds, ability to sit for a long period of time, ability to handle often stressful situations under deadline, good manual and overall physical dexterity.
