WFXR News is looking for a full-time meteorologist to join our acclaimed weather team. Certified as the most 
accurate weather team in the Roanoke-Lynchburg DMA for 8 consecutive years by WeatherRate, you'll have the 
opportunity to hone your forecasting and broadcasting skills as part of a team with decades of combined 
broadcast meteorology experienced. Whether you're a seasoned meteorologist or looking for your first 
opportunity at the green screen, you'll be forecasting in a very active region—from tornadoes to tropical 
systems to winter storms and everything in between. And when you're not broadcasting live in a newscast, 
you'll work on weather stories that resonate with our viewers and help them understand how weather affects 
their daily lives.
Position Responsibilities:
• Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsrooms situations as 
required.
• Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
• Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
• Produces digital content, including written stories and video, detailing the local forecast on a daily 
basis.
• *Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites.
• *Write, report, edit and present weather-related stories for newscasts and digital properties.
• *Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Skill/ Experience Requirements
• *Bachelor's degree in Meteorology strongly preferred; otherwise, Bachelor's degree in a related field, 
or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• *Fluency in English.
• *Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ad-lib during live 
weathercasts.
• *Experience in broadcast weather reporting or anchoring preferred.
• *Knowledge of Baron weather systems, ENPS and Wordpress preferred.
• *Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and multitask.
• *Ability to listen and communicate professionally and effectively to solve problems and resolve issues 
both internally and externally.
• *Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• *Ability to work any shift, including overnights, weekends and holidays when needed, and respond 
immediately to emergent weather situations.
