WSET-TV
On Air
Full Time
Lynchburg, VA
Meteorologist AM & Noon
311

WSET ABC 13 is looking for a dynamic, full-time meteorologist.  The morning meteorologist is responsible for weather content on-air and on our digital platforms.  A competitive passion to win breaking weather and an openness to innovation is mandatory.  Our winning candidate will be someone who embraces social media and knows how to consistently engage with the audience.

Why move to Lynchburg?  Lynchburg's downtown is thriving.  There are lots of nearby places for you to explore the great outdoors including the Blue Ridge Mountains and Smith Mountain Lake.  Lynchburg is a great place to live and raise a family.  The cost of living is low.  You're also not far from several big cities and entertainment: Richmond (2 hours), Raleigh (2.5 hours), Washington DC (3.5 hours), Charlotte (3.5 hours) and Virginia Beach (4 hours).  And if you're into sports, Liberty University, UVA, Virginia Tech and the Martinsville Speedway are just a short drive away.

The main day to day responsibilities of the role will include…

  • Forecasting, producing and presenting clear and concise weather casts, which tell a story and connects with viewers
  • Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
  • Utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories for our website
  • Make public appearances on behalf of the station
  • Work with news managers and producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations
  • Occasional fill-in for weekend meteorologist

What skills do you need to be successful in our role?

  • In-depth knowledge of forecasting
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in broadcast weather presentation
  • Already having your meteorological seal doesn't hurt.
  • Prior experience with Max Reality (The Weather Company) is a plus.

While applying online, please include a link to your online demo reel.
