CBS19 in beautiful Charlottesville, VA is looking for our next Director of Sports.  Be a part of covering top-tier ACC athletics from the front row. This includes traveling to NCAA games at places like Notre Dame, Cameron Indoor Stadium, or the College World Series.  The University of Virginia has one of the best athletic programs in the country and we need an experienced candidate to lead our coverage.  Each year we do numerous specials about the upcoming football or basketball seasons, and primers before the NCAA tournament.   Plus, you’ll head up high school football specials (16 Camps), and anchor Friday Night Endzone, our weekly high school football highlight show.  If you love big time college sports, and want to cover it all, this is the job for you.

 

Qualifications 

 

Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, or related field 

 

Minimum 2 years experience writing, producing, shooting and editing video 

 

Minimum 2 years experience in news gathering, reporting and working in a newsroom environment 

 

Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

 

Responsibilities

 

As Sports Director, you'll produce and anchor sportscasts on the station's 6:00, 10:00, and 11:00 weeknight newscasts 

 

Frequently update scores on-air and our online platforms 

 

Generate sports story ideas, conduct interviews, produce and anchor live sportscasts 

 

Work with news producers, managers, photographers and reporters to coordinate sports coverage 

 

Coordinate and plan high school football coverage by assigning a team of reporters and photographers to football games each week, while producing and anchoring a weekly highlight show ("EndZone") every Friday night during the fall.
