The Assistant Chief Engineer is a support role to the Chief Engineer. They help facilitate the day-to-day operations of the Broadcast Engineering Department as well as oversee the maintenance of all broadcast technology, station equipment and transmitter sites. Some key responsibilities include:
· Assist in managing all aspects of the Broadcast Engineering Department
· Help maintain all broadcast technology and equipment for the station and transmitter sites.
· Ensure station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal laws.
· Collaborate with Chief Engineer to implement innovative technologies and technical infrastructure for the station.
· Assist with managing engineering and technology capital projects to the established budgets.
· Manage and coordinate fiber connectivity, production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems.
· Evaluate, select, install, service, and maintain station equipment and information technology systems.
· Repair and maintain station building infrastructures.
· Assist in maintaining station vehicle fleet, including live satellite trucks.
· Communicate and coordinate equipment maintenance and training with vendors/contractors.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills
· Associate Degree in Electronics, Communications or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience preferred.
· Minimum three years' experience in a television broadcast environment
· Strong working knowledge of server and desktop operating systems and hardware preferred.
· Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud and Bitcentral software a plus
· Fluent in English; effective communication, both verbal and written
· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
· Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Ability to work extended hours, as needed.
Physical Demand & Work Environment
The Assistant Chief Engineer must be physically able to stand, sit, reach, climb, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. The Assistant Chief Engineer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to fifty pounds, and be able to manage, control or feel objects, tools, or controls. Repetitive movements are required.
