WSET ABC 13 in beautiful Lynchburg, Virginia is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant News Director with strong leadership skills and a bold style to help lead our award-winning newsroom. Our mission is to produce targeted content on all platforms with a distinctive focus on accountability reporting.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting the News Director with managing the station's daily news operations, setting goals, and directing a staff of 50+ to produce more than 24 hours of local news weekly; including approving timecards, scripts, scheduling, and vacation requests.
- Responsible for initiating and managing growing content delivery on multiple platforms.
- Review newscasts and reporter stories to ensure quality control, brand compliance, and provide feedback.
- Assisting the News Director with recruiting and hiring news department personnel.
- Collaborate with other managers to develop marketing plans, establish ratings goals, and effectively reach said goals.
- Must be able to fill-in produce newscasts when called upon.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Must have held previous management or leadership positions at a broadcast television station.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws.
- Must have a proven track record of success in building a winning news organization.
- Journalism degree and a minimum of five years experience in news with noted leadership skills preferred
- Former line producing experience is a plus.
