VAB Summer Convention coming soon
The Summer Convention to be held on June 15-17 at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel, promises once more to deliver informative
presentations and entertainment that you just don’t want to miss.
On Thursday, the 15th, the convention will kick off with the VAB Board lunch and meeting beginning at 12:00 p.m. Following is the EEO seminar starting at 3:00 p.m.
Later that evening, we will have a welcoming dinner buffet succeeded by the ever-popular Casino Night. Don’t miss the action and a chance to see
who wins the great prizes...it could be you!
After Casino Night, an optional President’s reception will take place on the North Sky Terrace on the 20th floor. There will be cocktails and
of course, the spectacular view.
On Friday morning, the VBS Advisory Committee breakfast meeting will be held, along with the VAB Board/Past Presidents breakfast and family breakfast.
We are very pleased to have the new NAB President, David Rehr, speak to everyone regarding broadcast issues on the national level.
Rehr’s presentation will be followed by breakout sessions for radio and television members.
The main speaker for Friday is Terri Sjodin from Sjodin Communications .
She will talk about the nine biggest mistakes that are made in presentations.
The VAB Awards reception will start at 6:00 p.m. and the Awards Dinner at 7:00 p.m. We are very excited about our station winners,
as well as four individual awards. You will have to attend to get the details!
The night will be topped off with dancing to the music of Butter , a Virginia Beach-based
band. Butter will play a broad spectrum of music and after short break, the musicians will come back as the
Disco band, Bootylicious . This should be a fun and “groovy” experience for everyone.
On Saturday, the convention starts off with a Small Market breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and a family breakfast at 7:45 a.m.
Jones Loflin , president of Helping Others Prepare for Excellence, Inc. , will
address “Success Without Being Squashed.” The focus of his presentation will be based on his newest
book, Juggling Elephants?. This book will be available for purchase after Loflin’s speech. Also, he will be glad to sign it if you wish.
The convention will adjourn at 11:00 a.m., so that you can enjoy the beach. The Boardwalk Art Festival will be going on during our stay and will
make for a nice stroll along the boardwalk.
